Firearms instructor holds gun safety class for kids

EUGENE, Ore. – A local firearms instructor says education is the key to gun safety, especially when it comes to children.

Firearms Instructor Scott Turner taught dozens of children and parents about basic firearms safety Sunday. The class was taught at Duers Martial Arts School in Eugene.

Turner said movies and video games could spark a curiosity in kids about firearms. He said it’s important for children to know not to handle a gun if an adult is not present.

“A lot of homes have firearms in them, and at times as parents we want to protect our children by not talking about them. And unfortunately that’s the opposite thing we need to do,” Turner said.

If you would like to attend a firearms class, contact Duers Martial Arts for a class schedule.
