It’s been one of those days. Bill collectors are calling, magically the car has a flat tire, a thousand and one things are on the wife’s “Honey-Do” list and now I am stuck in a torrential down pour that is so bad I am pretty sure Noah’s Ark just passed me on the road.
We’ve all had those days. To some, handling these types of disastrous days is handled usually through cursing, maybe kicking the flat car tire, snapping at a random stranger in public followed by some sort of alcoholic beverage.
It can feel like God has abandoned you, or that maybe God “has it out for you”. That is not the case. I can lay on a myriad of bible verses that point out how God is in control, which he is; or how God has his hand on you; which he does. I won’t patronize you. I am just going to give you one Bible Verse in this article.
To me, it is the one bible verse that personally for me, has a thousand and one meanings and uses.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Over the years, this verse has meant many different things to me. Most recently in this past year, it has meant that God is guiding me on the path back to him. I have been deeply devoted this past year to rebuilding my relationship with God. Attending a magnificent church, becoming a member of my church, I am even on the worship team now singing and playing guitar.
Before that, Jeremiah 29:11 was like a security blanket, letting me know everything was going to be okay. You see, my Mother had passed away. She was the one who introduced me to this verse when I was a child. It was her favorite scripture and I felt lost and alone. I kept repeating this verse to myself through the weeks that followed my Mothers passing. It was my reminder from her and from the Lord, that everything was going to work out.
When I was in the Military, the verse was my armor. My rapid extrication verse. I knew that God was my reinforcements and that he was going to get me back home in one piece. I was invincible!
Military, Death, The Path of a Prodigal son, this single Bible verse was what got me through everything.
This one verse drives my faith, even when the chips are down, the deck is rigged and all odds are against me; Jeremiah 29:11 is the verse that reminds me that God has a plan. He has my back.
Even when everything in the house is breaking, the bills are piling up, the spouse is furious or the kids are driving you insane; God has a plan for you. Never lose your faith in this.
